Who is Ben?
Ben tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident while in his senior year at RIT. Ben followed the motto of his friend, Nick Kovaleski, in that he “Lived With Purpose.” Ben was a kind and caring person, always willing to help others. He completed his Eagle Scout project at ARC’s Camp Rainbow. He was active in his Church and donated 100s of hours to his community. Ben loved music, sports but most of all his family and friends.
Ben felt education was important. The Albion community named a Soccer Tournament for him and his family and friends endowed a scholarship in his honor. To further his legacy, Ben’s Backpacks was created to provide children in the rural area of Oaxaca Mexico the opportunity to attend school. Transportation, books, access to computers, mandated uniforms, and classroom supplies must be provided by the student’s family. $30 can buy a year’s school supplies.
Education is the key to lifting this area out of poverty.
