Pultneyville Grill
7.21.14

My wife Diane and I eat frequently at Tillman's Village Inn on the corner of routes 104 and 98, in Childs, N.Y. just north of Albion. In my opinion Tillman's is the gold standard for whom all other restaurants are judged. Tillman's is a 10 ! Great food, perfectly cooked, fresh seafood and the finest meats arrive daily, and martinis as cold as glacial run-off!

My job as a home inspector takes me to some interesting places. Last night I had to retrieve a Radon test in Ontario, New York. I asked Diane to go along with me so we could go to the Pultneyville Grill for dinner.

I had attended a cigar smoker dinner with my good friend, Peter Parts, a couple of weeks ago at the Grill. We had a tremendous time and a wonderful meal ! We solved all the problems of the world, met a group of new friends, and smoked some of the best cigars on the planet. I couldn't wait to show Diane this amazing restaurant!

The Pultneyville Grill is tucked away in a beautiful harbor on the village curve in Pultneyville. The setting was gorgeous. The temperature was a perfect 75 degrees. We sat outside on the patio but first we went upstairs and introduced ourselves to Tom and Sherry Watson the owners of the restaurant. Tom seated us on the patio and introduced us to Kimberly who would be our waitress for the evening. Diane really likes Pinot Grigio and I had a Columbia Crest Merlot. I ordered the "mussels of the day", which were prepared in a tarragon sauce and steamed perfectly. I spent twenty years trying to cook mussels properly and let me tell you, Chef Nate knew that a four minute steam bath made the most tender mussels on the planet! These mussels were delicious!
Diane had a unique entree called "filet by the ounce"!

"Filet by the Ounce" is filet mignon (4 ounce) served with whipped potatoes and vegetable of the day and your choice of bearnaise butter, mushroom demiglace, au poivre, or caramelized onion sauce (gluten free). You may also choose additional filet by the ounce. $19 + $2.50 for each additional ounce". The four ounce was perfectly cooked medium rare and was just the right portion for Diane.
I chose the steak of the day. A New York Strip cooked medium rare with whipped potatoes and spinach. Kimberly brought me some Tabasco to smother the spinach!

After all that we really were full but there's always room for dessert! We shared a wonderful piece of carrot cake with creamy sauce and just the right amount of whipped cream. Well, 70%/30% sharing.

If you find yourself anywhere east of Rochester we would both give the Pultneyville Grill a 9 on our rating scale and definitely recommend you give it a chance to earn your dining business!
