The Mia Foundation

The Mia Foundation takes in dozens of animals born with deformities with the goal of giving them a chance at a life.

It's the dog days of summer and all you want to do is lay in a hammock and occcasionally move to tip back something cold.  We hear ya!  Unfortunately there are some things you should make time to do even during these lazy hazy days.

1. Replace Air Conditioner Filter
The air filter on your heating and cooling system needs to be replaced every 1-3 months.  If you started the season with a new filter it's probably time to change it.

2. Replace the Weather-Stripping on Your External Doors.  Keep the cooled air in!

3. Clear the Gutters and Inspect the Roof.  Summer storms can do a number on those very integral parts of our homes.

And when you're done, hop back in the hammock and grab a cold one!

New siding makes all the difference on a 'tired' home.  Vekton Corporation has been adding value and beauty to our area homes since 1986.  Vekton Corporation is located at 1829 Penfield Road in Rochester.  Take a ride to see them, visit their website or give them a call at 585-248-3240.

Count on Vekton to exceed your expectations! It’s the Vekton difference. Vekton-Value.

What do they do?  They specialize in mobile advertising and signage solutions, including: vehicle wraps, fleet graphics, vinyl decals and lettering. But that's not all!  They also install architectural and retail graphics to walls, floors, windows, exterior store displays, service stations, etc.

Vital Signs has grown, since conception in 2005, to employ 10 employees, a recently expanded professional office space and design studio that includes a sign fabrication shop and 2 installation bays for vehicle graphic installs. The company retains the highest industry credential for vehicle wrap installations – 3M Certified Graphics Installation Company – and owner Josh Palmer is also personally 3M Certified, undergoing training at 3M for vehicle wraps, which places Palmer and Vital Signs in a higher caliber of vehicle graphics installation companies than most other local sign shops.

We tell you time and time again...we wouldn't recommend someone we don't use ourselves!

5 medium slice (yield after cooking) Bacon
4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Stick

1 1/2 teaspoons Salt
1/2 cup Sour Cream (Cultured)

Cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 5 minutes each side. Place cooked bacon on a paper towel to absorb excess grease, set aside and crumble when cool. Reserve 3 Tbsp bacon fat in the pan.
Add the butter to the pan and bacon grease and heat over medium heat. Once the butter has melted add the shredded cabbage and salt. Sauté tossing 5-6 times for 15 minutes until wilted and cooked through.
Add the sour cream stirring to coat. Top with crumbled bacon and serve immediately. Makes 8 half cup servings.

A new roof is a very big investment.  You want to make sure you get it right the first time.  Our suggestion is to hire someone who only does roofing.  Our suggestion is to hire Tony the Roofer.

With Tony the Roofer, the roofing estimate is a simple process. Give them a call, after a short phone interview they will make a trip to your home and inspect your roof system, generate a complete quote and mail it to you within 48 hours of your initial call. You don't even have to be home when they come to inspect your roof if you don't want to be (or can't be).

Check out their gallery here.  A picture can say it better than we can...but we'll try...Tony the Roofer does an AMAZINGLY professional job!

Everblak is proud to offer a full suite of paving contractor services. These services include (from the Everblak website):

  • Resurfacing. We’ll shim the low areas with a new layer of asphalt, conduct necessary repairs, and add a few inches of asphalt to the whole lot. This is the best choice when the existing asphalt is mostly in good shape.
  • Replacement. If the asphalt has a good base but extensive wear and tear on the surface, we’ll grind away the damaged layer and pave it over again.
  • Full-depth replacement. If necessary, we have the tools to completely remove, re-grade, and re-pave a parking lot.
  • InstallationIf your property has a parcel of land that you’d like to turn into a parking lot, we’re happy to start from square one. We’ll perform a series of checks to ensure that the parking lot will be level and drain properly, and we’ll pave the land with the best asphalt available.

A good recommendation is one of the best tools when choosing a contractor.  Jim Salmon highly recommends Everblak!
