1. Window, Mirror and Glass Cleaning - Denatured alcohol is the perfect glass cleaner. It won't leave streaks! Dilute the denatured alcohol (50/50) with water before using it to clean your windows.
2. Remove Mildew and Mold - Put some denatured alcohol in a sprayer and spray the areas of mold or mildew. Let it soak for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a clean damp rag. Dry the area after wiping it clean.
3. Clean and Remove Paint - Denatured alcohol can be used to remove unwanted paint from wood, and it can also be used to clean paint brushes.
4. Remove Glue and Stickers - Use denatured alcohol to easily remove the stickers and glue.
5. Remove Permanent Marks or Ink Marks - Denatured alcohol can also be used to remove tough ink, wine or other stains from clothes or upholstery. But as always with any new cleaning product, test a small spot on a hidden area first.

We post a tip of the day almost every single day on JimSalmon.com.  We also post them on our facebook page.  Actually these are Wishbone's Tips but we'll take credit for it.  Be sure to check one place or the other daily for some helpful tips and tricks!   Here are some of our favorite tips we've posted over time:

Constantly cleaning rust rings from shaving cream or other cans from the bathroom counter or tub?  Coat the bottom of the can with clear nail polish and you won’t have to clean rust rings ever again.

Have you ever had a paint container with a screw on lid that becomes impossible to open? Next time you use one put a piece of plastic wrap over the entire opening (hanging below the where the lid will screw on) and then screw the lid on top.

Have you discovered that your garden tools rusted over the winter?  Don’t throw them away.  Try this: combine salt and lemon juice in a container and rub on the tools with a clean kitchen scouring pad.  Wipe with a clean rag.  If the rust is resistant let the solution remain on the tools for a few minutes before wiping.

Quick Tip for cleaning rust from Chrome. Scrunch up a piece of tin foil and dip into cold water. Rub gently to remove rust. Dry with a towel.

Place pots of herbs such as basil, mint or lavender around your patio or deck to help eliminate pesky flies.  Flies dislike the fragrance of these herbs!

Have you ever wondered about the evolution of home architecture in the United States?  We know many home styles were influenced by Europeans.   Cape Cod homes were inspired by Britain's thatched cottages.  Colonial style is modeled after Roman classicism.  The provincial style was inspired by estates of the French countryside.  The tudor style originated in England.  And so on.  But what about the ranch style home?  Where did that come from?

Frank Lloyd Wright.  That's where the ranch style home came from.  It's even said that he "revolutionized the American home when he began to design houses with low horizontal lines and open interior spaces.   Wright's  Prairie School designs inspired America's love affair with the Ranch Style home, a horizontal structure with a predominate chimney.

The ranch style home was first built in the 1920's but became very popular post-war from the 1940's to the 1970's.

High winds can cause serious damage.  In the past we've had some incredible winds and the NFA has had licensed public adjusters working with clients to assist them with claims.  Keep that in mind.  If you have any type of loss, from high winds or otherwise, contact NFA.

"Residential claims include those who own a single or multi-family home, live in a condo unit or are renting an apartment.

There are a number of Residential Insurance policies, all of which differ greatly between insurance companies and as well as different types of coverages within those companies.

There maybe Endorsement or Exclusions within your policy that differ tremendously from your neighbor’s policy, even though you are insured by the same company. Knowing what is included AND excluded within your policy is key in understanding what you are AND are not covered for when it comes to Recovery.

NFA has on staff a number of Building and Contents Estimators available to assist in determining the scope of damages sustained to your property. Having a knowledgeable team, at your disposal, can be crucial when it comes time to present your loss and negotiate a settlement with your insurance company."

In a loss, contact National Fire Adjustment Co. at 371 White Spruce Boulevard in Rochester or call them at 585-272-8220.

Summer is a time we like to eat lighter...but we still like to eat!  Sometimes we get stuck in the same rut with our side dishes to go along with the hamburgs and hotdogs.  We went in search of an easy, healthy recipe to pass along and found this one from marthastewart.com.  The best part is you make this recipe the day before!

8 ounces green beans, stem ends removed, halved on the diagonal
4 ounces yellow wax beans, stem ends removed, halved on the diagonal
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons red-wine vinegar
2 tablespoons olive oil
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 can (15 ounces) cannellini beans, rinsed and drained

1. Fill a large bowl with ice water; set aside. Set a steamer basket in a large pot with a lid. Fill with enough water to come just below basket; bring to a boil.
2. Place green and wax beans in basket; reduce heat to a simmer. Cover pot, and steam until beans are crisp-tender, 6 to 8 minutes. With tongs or a slotted spoon, transfer beans to ice water. Drain, and pat dry.
3. In a medium bowl, whisk together mustard, vinegar, and oil; season with salt and pepper. Add green, wax, and cannellini beans; toss to coat. If storing, cover and refrigerate up to 1 day; bring to room temperature before serving.
