We've talked about spray foam insulation a lot. But now that the cold and wind is here how does your house feel? Are you chilly, feel drafts, can't get the house warm no matter how high you put the thermostat, your curtains billowing at the windows? Spray foam is the answer! Jim Salmon & John Welch from the WHAM Home Repair Clinic ( in case you haven't heard of them! ) recently hired Tracey Door Co. for overhead doors for their buildings. Ok, we are stuck indoors, notice you've been sneezing more, itchy eyes, but you're not sick - yet? We get calls at Jim's home inspection office from people who have bought their new to them house, after being pressured not to get a home inspection 'if you want this house!' They actually had to sign off on having the inspection. Do you know why? Them signing off takes all the responsibility off the realtor. Now it's your problem. So after the purchase is done,  we get the call to have the house inspected. Realize Jim does not create the issues with the house. The issues are there, he is commenting on the fact they exist. He's not there to sugar-coat or overlook problems, you need to know the condition and what to do about it. Sometimes there are minor things, but many times - major, like structure, foundation cracks, water damage, need a new roof,  on and on. He will discuss what is going on, what the fix is, approximate costs to repair or replace. Being informed is important, guess what, remember that paper you signed? Now it falls on you, the repairs + the expense. You've already overextended to purchase that house, drained your bank account and credit, YOU ARE STUCK. 

For those of you looking to purchase a house, get a home inspection first. Then at least you'll know what you're getting into, or walk away from.
