Jim Salmon's birthday, October 1st
Halloween October 31st is a biggie for kids, especiially! Just keep in mind when taking the kids out that they are careful of traffic and they are visible to drivers. So hard to see a young one in a dark costume.
What's your favorite memory of Halloween and your favorite candy?

ATTENTION PENFIELD RESIDENTS
You may have noticed or heard of some geothermal drilling happening recently, and perhaps even caught a whiff of something unusual in the air. While that wasn't an ACES project, we want to clear up why this happens and how we handle it.
?FLX Geology 101: The Finger Lakes region is rich with sedimentary rocks like shale, limestone, and sandstone, but underneath, there are natural voids (cavities formed by erosion and rock dissolution). Sometimes, these voids trap methane pockets, causing a temporary release of gas. While the smell can be unpleasant, it's not harmful to the public, and fire departments are often called to assess the situation. It's all part of the process!
?How We Prevent: At ACES, we take extra care to review the geology of each site using publicly available data, and our own personal log of drilling results nearby before starting. In Penfield and Brighton, for example, we typically drill to 150 feet. Beyond 150' we've found voids more consistently. Over the last 15 years, we've partnered with local municipalities to refine geothermal permitting practices to ensure our projects are safe and successful.
*It's unfortunate when geothermal projects go awry, often due to installers skipping essential permits or failing to plan for the local geology. When this happens, it not only puts the project at risk but also gives geothermal energy a bad reputation.
(See?They do know what they're talking about!)
Do you worry about losing power this winter? So many of our appliances, furnace, our phone chargers (!), it's definitely inconvenient but for many people losing power effects their health! Oxygen, powering wheel chairs or lift chairs, things you don't even think about. Having a stand by generator from Generator Supercenter is what to do. They have on display at their store, various selections and sizes for you to choose. An important decision is to make sure you get one big enough to handle what you need. Some people think, only need furnace and refrigerator as well as some lights. But in reality, when the power does go out, they wish they had gotten a bigger one. Bigger doesn't mean larger in size necessarily, bigger means more power. Sometimes you have no idea how long the power will be out, possibly days maybe a week or so. A few hours isn't a problem but a week? That takes it to a whole different level of discomfort and loss of food, etc. Insurance doesn't cover a lot of that especially the inconvenience. Generator Supercenter is a local business, you can easily drive to their location, walk in the door and ask all the questions you want to a person who will answer them! That in itself is a big deal!

If you're looking to buy a house, please, call our office for a home inspection! 585-589-5650 It's probably the most expensive purchase in your life. Know the condition of that house before you sign your life away. It's easy to be told you can't chance missing out on a house if you put a contingency for a home inspection in the offer. It doesn't effect the person saying it. It will effect you in a big way once you move in and discover lots of issues. For instance, the furnace doesn't work, or the basement has had many feet of water in it, or the roof needs to be replaced because it's damaged &/or leaking. Along with many others problems that you sure wish you knew about beforehand. Now you're stuck with a house you paid way too much for, put yourself in major debt, that needs a ton of expensive work. You're out of money and resources.
